DIY Essential Oil Nail Polish

Posted by on

Getting my nails done is a luxury I stumble upon maybe twice a year. But, it's always the same thing.. I stay for hours, leave with an empty pocket book, an overwhelming feeling of regret that makes my stomach turn, and a pounding headache from the fumes that I inhaled for almost two hours...(I mean, really, can we get some ventilation in here?)
We all know it, the smell of nail polish. It makes me cringe. Once, I spilled almost an entire bottle of it on my kitchen table, and my house wreaked for hours. It was so unbearable, I was forced to retreat to a movie theatre just to get some relief. But, once the nail polish dries, the odor subsides and we are left with just a beautiful glossy color on our newly manicured hands. But, what if...just what if your nail polish scent wasn't a "pounding fuming headache, retreat to the movie theatre" smell... but it was actually a pleasant scent that you enjoyed smelling...? One that also offered added therapeutic benefits, all day long.
Sign me up. How do I do this?
You'll need:
-A NATURAL nail polish
-A paper plate
-A small, flat, painters brush
-Essential Oils
By "natural nail polish", I don't mean a "nude" color, unless of course that's your preference. (I currently have a brown, and love it). But, by natural I mean non-toxic. I would recommend Scotch Naturals.
Scotch Naturals Nail Polish is:
  • Vegan
  • Cruelty-free
  • Gluten Free
  • Fragrance Free
  • Toxin Free
  • Paraben Free
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Biodegradable

They are certified non-toxic nail polishes in a variety of colors including, but not limited to these:

Now the next part is very easy.
  1. Paint your first coat of nail polish on, just like normal. No essential oils, just yet.
  2. Let that dry.
  3. Now your going to make your essential oil mixture. It can take some experimenting, but I recommend 1 drop of essential oil for every 10 drops of nail polish. (You can choose to mix it with the colored polish, or even with a clear coat)
  4. Use your extra brush to polish on the mixture.

Wait for your nails to dry, and smell the benefits of essential oils all day!

...Now go shop for some beautiful Fashion Scents Essential oil diffusing Jewelry to go with it! :)

Until next time!
